Langflow's critical authenticated RCE flaw has been exploited 1,423 times since September 19, 2026, and the threat actor's systematic approach suggests a clear intention to compromise exposed instances. The vulnerability allows any authenticated Langflow user to execute arbitrary OS commands on the server with the privileges of the Langflow process, leading to full server compromise and the deployment of a persistent backdoor.
Langflow, an open-source AI platform, has been targeted by threat actors exploiting a critical security flaw. The vulnerability, CVE-2026-105740, allows authenticated users to execute arbitrary OS commands on the server with full privileges. The vulnerability is due to a lack of validation and sandboxing for user-supplied commands in the MCP server configuration. Exploitation of this vulnerability can result in sensitive data compromise, environment variable transmission, and persistent backdoor deployment. Langflow users are advised to upgrade to a patched version, disable auto-login, and review authentication logs for suspicious activity. The discovery of this vulnerability highlights the growing concern of AI-powered attacks and the need for robust security measures.
Langflow, an open-source platform used to build artificial intelligence (AI) applications and agentic workflows, has recently been targeted by threat actors exploiting a critical security flaw. According to an alert from Previdian, the vulnerability, identified as CVE-2026-105740, has been exploited 1,423 times since September 19, 2026, by 27 unique attacker IP addresses located in various countries across the globe.
The vulnerability in question is a case of authenticated remote code execution (RCE), which allows any authenticated Langflow user to execute arbitrary OS commands on the server with the privileges of the Langflow process. This can lead to full server compromise, environment variable injection, facilitate lateral movement, and the deployment of a persistent backdoor.
The vulnerability is attributed to the lack of validation and sandboxing for user-supplied commands in the MCP server configuration. Langflow accepts a user-provided command without restricting it to approved executables, which can lead to shell execution. In a hypothetical attack scenario, a bad actor can exploit the flaw by logging in as a regular, non-admin user, adding a malicious MCP server by sending a crafted HTTP POST request to "/api/v2/mcp/servers/{server_name}" with a command field containing a malicious payload, triggering the flaw by fetching the MCP server list via an HTTP GET "/api/v2/mcp/servers?action_count=true" request, and achieving code execution.
The successful exploitation of this vulnerability can result in significant consequences, including the compromise of sensitive data, the transmission of environment variables and sensitive Langflow configurations, and the deployment of a persistent backdoor. In one observed sequence, attackers checked the Langflow version, attempted /api/v1/auto_login, and then successfully authenticated using a common username and password, immediately using the resulting bearer token to access the vulnerable MCP server configuration endpoint.
The captured payloads from the honeypot sensors show attempts to extract environment variables and sensitive Langflow configurations, as well as Docker commands attempting to access the host filesystem and read the contents of "/etc/passwd." A significant chunk of the activity originates from the IP address "192.255.229[.]92," which has been observed attempting to extract environment variables and has engaged in generic brute-force attacks, as well as exploiting other flaws in Flowise (CVE-2026-69255) and Langflow (CVE-2026-55255, CVE-2026-9198, and CVE-2026-0768).
The targeting of multiple Langflow vulnerabilities by an unknown threat actor suggests a systematic approach to exploit exposed instances. The end goals of this threat actor are currently unclear, but Langflow has recommended upgrading to a patched version, disabling auto-login, enforcing strong and unique passwords, and reviewing authentication logs and requests to "/api/v2/mcp/servers/" for suspicious activity.
In light of this critical security flaw, it is essential for Langflow users to take immediate action to secure their platforms. If immediate patching is not an option, it is advised to set LANGFLOW_AUTO_LOGIN=false, avoid exposing Langflow directly to untrusted networks, and grant Langflow accounts to trusted users.
The discovery of this critical vulnerability highlights the growing concern of AI-powered attacks in the world of cybersecurity. As AI agents become more pervasive and integrated into various systems, the risk of AI-powered attacks also increases. It is crucial for organizations to implement robust security measures to prevent such attacks and ensure the integrity of their AI-powered systems.
In conclusion, Langflow's critical authenticated RCE flaw is a growing concern in the world of artificial intelligence. The vulnerability has been exploited 1,423 times, and the threat actor's systematic approach suggests a clear intention to compromise exposed instances. It is essential for Langflow users to take immediate action to secure their platforms and for organizations to implement robust security measures to prevent AI-powered attacks.
