The company made this announcement through its Windows release health dashboard, which provides details on the lifecycle of each Windows version.

According to the announcement, Enterprise and Education editions of Windows 11 23H2 are still under mainstream support until November 10, 2026. This means that users who run these editions will continue to receive updates and security patches until this date.

However, for systems running Home and Pro editions of Windows 11 23H2, the end of updates has already been reached on August 12, 2025. As a result, Microsoft is urging customers to upgrade to the latest version of Windows 11, which is version 24H2. This new version was released in May 2024 and became generally available to eligible devices in October 2024.

It's worth noting that before upgrading to the latest version of Windows 11, users should be aware of several safeguard holds introduced by Microsoft for devices with incompatible software and drivers. These holds block upgrades on systems with certain technologies such as SenseShield Technology code-obfuscation drivers, integrated cameras, Intel Smart Sound Technology (SST) audio drivers, wallpaper customization software, and Dirac audio improvement software.
